Strange Stories of Suspense #6
In "The Illusion!", Bill Everett's striking art brings to life a chilling tale of mystery and transformation, as Clark's expedition uncovers a golden totem pole in the Arctic, only to find themselves shrinking overnight with each return. The story unfolds with eerie precision, blending suspense and the uncanny as Clark’s men vanish one by one, leaving him alone with the totem’s secrets. The cover by Carl Burgos captures the story’s haunting tone, a stark, memorable image that hints at the strange fate awaiting those who dare disturb ancient relics.

Clark's men find an Inuit who has a golden totem pole. They take the pole, but when nearly home they awaken to find they've shrunk over night and the totem is gone. They return to reclaim the totem, but the same thing happens again as they near home. Each of Clark's men abandon him as he becomes shorter until he's transformed into a face on the totem pole by aliens, friends of the Inuit man.
