Led by the enigmatic Quasimodo, they claim a mysterious stranger granted them new bodies and a second chance—though Rom soon learns the truth behind their transformation may be far more complicated than it seems. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Sal Buscema, with inks by Ian Akin and Brian Garvey, and colors by Ben Sean, this 1984 issue features a striking cover by Jean Frisano.
In "Entre hommes de fer," Machine Man seeks answers from Iron Man, convinced he’s just another machine—only to find a drunk, unraveling Tony Stark behind the armor. When Stark mistakes Machine Man for an agent of Obadiah Stane, the two clash in a brutal fight that reveals more than just metal and circuits. With Rhodey racing to safety and Stark spiraling further into self-destruction, the encounter leaves both men changed—though neither fully understands why.
In "La Belle et la Bête," the fused form of Hydro-Man and Sandman becomes a towering mud monster, driven by a twisted longing as he captures Sadie Frickett—someone both men once admired. Drawn into a fragile bond, Sadie calms the creature and even agrees to perform with him on stage, but when jealousy ignites, the monster's rage erupts in a desperate climb up a skyscraper, leaving her in his grasp.
In "Les chasseurs," Daredevil and Elektra track down Matt's former mentor, Stick, as tensions rise over a dangerous legacy. With Turk donning the Mauler's uniform to challenge Daredevil and Elektra facing off against Kirigi in a final, tense showdown, the line between past and present blurs in a story of loyalty, vengeance, and the cost of redemption.
