Starman #40

Against a stark black backdrop hovering over a casino-lit cityscape, Starman in his dark-and-red star-emblazoned costume throws a flying kick at a pompadoured figure in a white jacket who's clutching an electric guitar — and the cover taunts us with "Not the Real Thing… but a Deadly Simulation!" It's a genuinely strange, fun setup that writer Len Strazewski and cover artist Randy DuBurke lean into with full commitment, blending superhero action with an almost surreal pop-culture edge. Issue #40 of this 1991 DC series promises that "Out of This World" is an apt title for whatever awaits inside.
