Star Wars: Splinter of the Mind's Eye #1

Dark Horse's adaptation of Alan Dean Foster's beloved Expanded Universe novel gets underway with this first installment of four, and Hugh Fleming's painted cover sets a suitably atmospheric tone — Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia stand alert in a misty, overgrown landscape, blasters ready, with R2-D2 and C-3PO visible behind them and a craft glowing in the murky background. The moody, painterly rendering gives the whole scene a pulpy adventure feel that suits the story's off-the-beaten-path corner of the galaxy. With Terry Austin and Chris Sprouse handling the interior work, 1995 was a fine time to dive into this particular slice of Star Wars lore.
