Star Wars Legends: The New Republic Omnibus #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis oversized hardcover stands as the definitive single-volume home for the post-Return of the Jedi comic stories that defined the 1990s Expanded Universe on the page. The X-Wing Rogue Squadron series, written by Michael A. Stackpole concurrently with his novels, gave Wedge Antilles and a roster of non-film pilots their own sustained comic mythology, cementing the New Republic era as fertile storytelling ground beyond the film trilogy. The inclusion of 'Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand' — the first comics work by Timothy Zahn, the novelist who invented the Legends post-ROTJ continuity — gives readers the definitive comic-form origin of one of the Expanded Universe's most beloved original characters. Together these stories represent a concentrated cross-section of the Legends era at its most ambitious: novel-writers adapting their prose instincts to sequential art, and Dark Horse Comics treating the Star Wars galaxy as a place with corners worth exploring far from the saga's central heroes.

All the constituent series were originally published by Dark Horse Comics — which held the Star Wars license from 1991 until Marvel reacquired it in 2015 — and had previously been staged through Marvel's smaller-format Epic Collection paperbacks before being consolidated here. Marvel's Legends Omnibus line, of which this is the opening New Republic installment, presents those same issues in a larger page size with substantially more material per volume than the Epic Collections that preceded them. The omnibus carries two distinct cover variants: a Mathieu Lauffray cover for the standard edition and a Gary Erskine cover for the direct-market variant, both sharing the same interior content.
