Writer Alex Segura came to this flagship series directly off his interconnected Star Wars: Battle of Jakku miniseries run, which he described in interviews as having been conceived in tandem with the ongoing — the earlier stories seeding characters like Rynn Zenat and Reyna Oskure who carry forward into this volume. Phil Noto, who served as series artist and cover illustrator from issue #1, stepped back from interior pencils after issue #6, with Pete Woods stepping in to handle full art duties — writing, penciling, inking, and coloring — for issues #7 and #8, under the editorial stewardship of Mark Paniccia. The series was announced at Star Wars Celebration as Marvel's first sustained attempt to dramatize the New Republic era, approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, in current canon continuity.
