Star Wars #8
Star Wars (2025) #8 marks the narrative pivot point of Alex Segura's New Republic-era flagship run, the issue in which Reyna Oskure — the Anzati dark-side manipulator whose machinations drove the entire Fenril Consortium arc — consolidates her control and personally confronts the captive Jesrit and Rynn Zenat, openly revealing that she siphoned Rynn's life force during the Battle of Jakku. That retroactive link between the Battle of Jakku miniseries and the ongoing represents one of the more ambitious pieces of serialized canon-building in Marvel's post-Disney Star Wars publishing, threading story threads across multiple titles. The issue also delivers a morally charged character beat for Beilert Valance — a fan-favorite cyborg bounty hunter carried over from Ethan Sacks' Bounty Hunters run — whose execution of Venk is framed as an act of protection for Han Solo's conscience, crystallizing the thematic tension between the old scoundrel ethos and the idealism of the New Republic era.

The 2025 Star Wars ongoing was announced in January 2025 as a full relaunch of Marvel's flagship Star Wars title, with New York Times bestselling crime novelist Alex Segura — who had just concluded the Battle of Jakku miniseries — elevated to the ongoing series. Segura has described learning he would helm the flagship only partway through that earlier miniseries, with editorial deliberately constructing narrative continuity between the two. Issue #8 brought Pete Woods aboard as full artist and colorist, filling in for series launch artist Phil Noto who had handled covers throughout; the editorial team under Mark Paniccia retained Clayton Cowles on letters and Phil Noto on covers to preserve visual brand consistency.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Published December 24, 2025 by Marvel Comics; written by Alex Segura, with interior art and colors by Pete Woods, lettering by Clayton Cowles, and a cover by Phil Noto.
- Eighth chapter of the 2025 Star Wars ongoing series — Marvel's third volume of its flagship Star Wars title — set approximately 6 ABY, between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, after the Battle of Jakku.
- No confirmed first appearances in this issue: all featured characters (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Mon Mothma, Beilert Valance, Rynn Zenat, Jesrit, and Reyna Oskure) had previously debuted in earlier issues or prior miniseries.
- Reyna Oskure — the Anzati dark-side cult member and primary antagonist of the arc — had her first appearance in Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising #1 (October 2, 2024); Jesrit first appeared in Star Wars (2025) #2 (June 11, 2025).
- Central plot revelation: Oskure discloses she used her Anzati life-force-draining ability on Rynn Zenat during the Battle of Jakku, retroactively connecting the Battle of Jakku miniseries to the 2025 ongoing's main conflict.
- Key character moment: Beilert Valance executes Zantarrk enforcer Gallana Venk rather than allow Han Solo to do so, explicitly to shield Solo from falling back into his darker habits — a defining beat in their partnership dynamic.
- Pete Woods, who had illustrated issue #7, continues here as sole artist-colorist; Phil Noto, the series' original interior artist, handles only the cover from this point onward.
- The 2025 ongoing ran for only ten issues total, concluding February 18, 2026, with issue #8 serving as the penultimate act of the Fenril Consortium storyline before the final confrontation in issues #9–10.
