Star Wars #5
Star Wars (2025) #5 is a pivotal chapter in Marvel's first ongoing series set firmly in the New Republic era — the narrative window between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens that had long been mapped only in Legends continuity. The issue accelerates both of the series' major threads simultaneously: on Loradil, the heroes' discovery of a dormant Separatist battle-droid army locked in a decades-old war is a striking reminder that the Clone Wars left scars across the galaxy that outlasted the Republic itself, while on Chandrila the Fenril Consortium's fleet mobilization tips the political crisis into open military confrontation. Taken together, issue #5 marks the moment Alex Segura's opening arc shifts from mounting tension to all-out escalation, showing how fragile the New Republic's post-Jakku peace truly was — a thematic thread that resonates directly with the broader story of how the First Order eventually rose unchallenged.

The 2025 Star Wars flagship launched in May 2025 as part of Marvel's deliberate push into the post-Return of the Jedi era, with New York Times bestselling author Alex Segura and artist Phil Noto — who handles full pencils, inks, and colors — announced as the core team at Star Wars Celebration before the series debuted. Segura brought several characters he had introduced in his earlier Star Wars: Battle of Jakku maxiseries (Rynn Zenat, Kith Alaytia) directly into the flagship, creating continuity across his own body of Lucasfilm Publishing work. Editor Mark Paniccia shepherded the series, and issue #5 shipped September 17, 2025, with a Final Order Cut-off date of August 18, 2025.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Written by Alex Segura with full art (pencils, inks, and colors) by Phil Noto; lettered by VC Clayton Cowles; edited by Mark Paniccia — the same core team as issues #1–4.
- Published September 17, 2025 by Marvel Comics; 22 story pages.
- The issue splits between two storylines: Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Rynn Zenat, and Beilert Valance besieged by Clone Wars–era Separatist battle droids on the planet Loradil, and Leia Organa and Mon Mothma on Chandrila learning that the Fenril Consortium has launched a war fleet toward the New Republic.
- Jesrit — the Nagai resistance leader — appears in this issue taking direct military action, freeing enslaved Nagai prisoners on Kaltrais; her first appearance in the series was issue #2.
- Kith Alaytia delivers the intelligence briefing confirming the Consortium fleet's trajectory — her role as a New Republic intelligence operative, established by Segura in his prior Battle of Jakku work, continues here.
- Reyna Oskure is confirmed in this issue as a believed-dead Anzati manipulator who survived the Battle of Jakku and is secretly orchestrating the Fenril Consortium's aggression alongside Prime Minister Kezrin Almovar.
- The cliffhanger — Han, Luke, and Valance discovering a cache of Clone trooper armor as a desperate option against the droid horde — carries directly into issue #6, where the trio dons the armor to fight their way out.
- The series is set canonically around 6 ABY, roughly two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, bridging the gap toward the sequel trilogy; issue #5 deepens the Nagai resistance subplot that runs through the entire ten-issue run.
