History

The 2025 Star Wars ongoing was relaunched by writer Alex Segura and artist Phil Noto, announced in January 2025 and launched with issue #1 on May 7, 2025. Segura came to the flagship title directly from his interconnected Battle of Jakku limited-series cycle, which he has described as deliberate narrative groundwork for this run — introducing Rynn Zenat, Kith Alaytia, and Reyna Oskure before carrying them forward into the ongoing. Noto, a veteran of the Poe Dameron series, described the post-Return of the Jedi setting as uniquely liberating because no film or television version of the characters in this period existed, giving him unusual latitude to develop their looks while still referencing the actors' appearances from the 1980s films. Editor Mark Paniccia oversaw the series, with the creative team framing the run's editorial mandate as showing 'the evolution of the core characters toward the versions fans will see later, in The Mandalorian and the Sequel Trilogy.'
