The Borg ship continues on to Romulus pursued by Captain Kirk and the Endeavour, who hope to rescue Spock and the other Borg captives. The Borg attempt to assimilate Spock, but he is able to resist their efforts. A Romulan Warbird joins the Endeavour in their rescue mission, but only after Kirk surrenders to the Romulans. Kirk enacts a daring plan to rescue the Borg's human and Romulan prisoners and destroy the Borg ship. In the aftermath, the Romulans release Kirk and the Endeavour crew, but Commander Valas, who is considered a Romulan traitor, must remain behind in Romulan custody.
