“Doom Came at Noon!”

What happens when a routine ski patrol stumbles into prehistoric terror? This 1964 DC entry in the long-running "War That Time Forgot" series drops yellow-suited ski troopers onto a snow-swept slope where a towering green dinosaur — claws outstretched and grinning with menace — erupts from what a panicked soldier warns is "the cellar," with more beasts apparently on the way. The cover, penciled by Ross Andru and inked by Mike Esposito, captures that wonderfully absurd collision of WWII action and lost-world creature chaos that made Star Spangled War Stories such a distinctive corner of the DC universe.

The "Three Musketeers" excelled in teamwork at football and basketball, but war split them up into infantry, air corps, and a Navy skipper. His "crash boat" picks up sailors and wreckage. But in the invasion, he also picks up his buddy, a downed pilot, and the other buddy, an infantryman fished out of the water. Together they storm ashore to destroy a big Nazi gun pounding the invasion. "The biggest team in history... made up of little teams -- just like us!"
