Star Spangled Comics #57

This June 1946 DC title puts the Newsboy Legion front and center in a tense interior scene where a menacing thug has cornered the kids and demands — at gunpoint — to know the Guardian's secret identity, while the Guardian himself dramatically leaps through a doorway in the background to the rescue. Jack Kirby's pencils (inked by Stan Kaye) pack the composition with energy, filling every corner with expressive faces and sharp angles that were already making Star Spangled Comics one of the liveliest books on the newsstand. "A Recruit for the Legion!" promises plenty of street-level adventure for a dime.
