Spooky #40

Even the desert isn't safe for Harvey Comics' tuff little ghost — on this cover, a very spooked Spooky goes fleeing across sandy ground, tears flying, as a menacing anthropomorphic cactus looms over him with outstretched arms while his little top hat goes tumbling through the air. It's a wonderfully charming piece of 1960 Harvey humor, pairing Spooky's signature wide-eyed expression with a genuinely funny threat only this series could dream up. Topped off with an "Xmas Toy Special" badge, this tenth-of-a-dollar issue is a delightful snapshot of Harvey Comics at its most playful.
