Spider-Woman #33

Spider-Woman faces a threat straight out of the past in this December 1980 Marvel issue, subtitled "Yesterday's Villain!" — and the cover by Dave Cockrum makes clear the stakes are immediate. Spider-Woman recoils from a crackling energy blast as period photographs and portraits surround her, hinting at a villain with deep historical roots — one figure on a bicycle and a group of formally dressed characters peer out from what appear to be old images. With interior art by Steve Leialoha and Bruce Patterson and a script by J. M. DeMatteis, this is a nicely crafted chapter in Jessica Drew's solo series that rewards fans of atmospheric, mystery-tinged superhero storytelling.
