Spider-Woman #1

The tagline says it all — "There Can Only Be One!" — and Bart Sears's cover for this 1999 series launch makes that rivalry immediately, viscerally clear. Four spider-powered women clash in a tangle of webs: a red-and-blue suited Spider-Woman lunges forward at center, while a fierce green-costumed figure with flowing white hair strikes from above, a blue-suited woman crackles with energy at left, and a fourth in red and gold is caught in the melee below. Writer John Byrne and artist Bart Sears (handling both pencils and inks) promised readers a series with real stakes right from the first page.
