Spider-Verse #6

History

The series was conceived as a deliberate sequel to the multiverse-altering Spider-Geddon event, during which the Web of Life and Destiny had been destroyed, and was positioned to reopen the Spider-Verse concept for ongoing storytelling. Primary writer Jed MacKay — who had also contributed to Spider-Geddon — handled the framing issues (#1 and #6), with the middle chapters farmed out to a rotating anthology of writers including Ryan North, Taran Killam, and Christos Gage; issue #6 featured interior art by Zé Carlos, colors by Christopher Sotomayor, letters by Joe Sabino, a cover by Dave Rapoza, and a variant cover by Shane Davis, under editor Nick Lowe and editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. A distinctive editorial hook threaded throughout the run was the '#Spidersonas' initiative: inspired by a fan hashtag that exploded after the 2018 animated film, Marvel reached out to fan artists to create original spider-hero designs, showcased them in back-matter profile pages across earlier issues, and then brought the winning designs into the main story of issue #6 for their first full narrative appearances. The entire six-issue run was later collected in the trade paperback Spider-Verse: Spider-Zero (ISBN 9781302920265).
