History

The series launched on October 2, 2019, written primarily by Jed MacKay, a Canadian writer who had previously contributed short stories to the 2015 Spider-Verse series and 2018's Edge of Spider-Geddon before graduating to longer-form Marvel work. The title functions as a direct sequel to the 2018 Spider-Geddon event, picking up the dangling thread of the destroyed Web of Life and Destiny and framing the repair of that web as the series' central mission. Structurally, Marvel designed the book as a rotating-creative-team anthology: each issue featured a different artist or set of artists corresponding to each alternate dimension visited, with #1 alone credited to pencillers including Arthur Adams, Juan Frigeri, Stacey Lee, and James Harren, among others. The main cover was produced by Wendell Dalit, the character designer for *Into the Spider-Verse*, a deliberate editorial choice to draw a visual line from the film's aesthetic to the print series. The six-issue run was later collected under the retitling *Spider-Verse: Spider-Zero* to distinguish it from earlier volumes sharing the same name.
