Spider-Man #9
Part 2 of the "Perceptions" arc drops Spider-Man and guest star Wolverine into something genuinely unsettling — the cover, rendered entirely by Todd McFarlane, places both heroes against a swirling mass of sickly green that resolves into a massive, slavering maw, with the tagline warning that deep in the woods lurks the Wendigo. Wolverine stands claws-bared and ready while Spider-Man descends on a web-line, the contrast between the two heroes' body language telling its own story. McFarlane's fluid, high-energy linework makes the threat feel alive and breathing around them, a fitting showcase for one of 1991's most ambitious ongoing series.
