Spider-Man #47
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeSpider-Man #47 marks the debut of Vladimir Kravinoff — the Grim Hunter — Kraven the Hunter's legitimate son and the first member of the Kravinoff family to carry on his father's villainous legacy after the elder Kravinoff's death in the celebrated 1987 'Kraven's Last Hunt' story arc. The character seeded a thematic thread about inherited obsession and the corrupting weight of legacy that would pay off dramatically in the 2010 'Grim Hunt' storyline, where Vladimir's own death was used as the cornerstone of a ritual to resurrect Kraven himself. The issue also serves as the key chapter in the 'Beware the Rage of a Desperate Man' arc, in which the Hobgoblin strikes a pact with Vladimir to acquire Kraven's super-strength formula — a deal that would ripple through the Clone Saga and beyond. It also introduces Gregor, Kraven's loyal manservant and Vladimir's surrogate father, a supporting character essential to understanding the Kravinoff family dynamic.

The issue was written by Howard Mackie and drawn by Tom Lyle, with inks by Scott Hanna, colors by Kevin Tinsley, and lettering by Richard Starkings and Comicraft. Mackie had been steadily building his Spider-Man footprint since taking over Web of Spider-Man in January 1992, and this arc arrived during one of the most crowded periods in the title's history — sandwiched between the 'Maximum Carnage' event and the approaching Clone Saga. Danny Fingeroth edited the issue under editor-in-chief Tom DeFalco. Tom Lyle served as both penciler on the interior story and cover artist for the issue.
