A striking image anchors this 2017 Marvel series entry: a bald, bespectacled older man wraps his arms around Miles Morales's Spider-Man, whose black-and-red suit blazes with bursts of golden light at the points of contact. The embrace reads as deeply protective — even tender — against a radiant, washed-out background that gives the whole scene a quietly emotional weight. Sara Pichelli's cover work, with colors by Marte Gracia, makes this issue hard to walk past on the shelf.
