The Spider-Boy solo series was conceived by writer Dan Slott after he recognized he could legally reclaim the 'Spider-Boy' name — previously used only for a 1996 Marvel/DC Amalgam character — and applied it to a new, entirely original Earth-616 creation he had been developing. Slott co-created Bailey Briggs alongside artist Humberto Ramos for the 'End of the Spider-Verse' storyline in Spider-Man vol. 4 #7 (April 2023); the character's rapid popularity prompted Marvel to fast-track an ongoing series, with Slott continuing as writer and Paco Medina (a veteran Marvel artist with credits including New X-Men: Academy X, Nova, and Legendary Star-Lord) taking on interior art duties alongside inkers Walden Wong and Julian Shaw, with Erick Arciniega and Fer Sifuentes-Sujo on colors and VC's Joe Caramagna lettering. Elizabeth Pyle served as editor on the series, with covers for issue #6 supplied by Humberto Ramos (pencils and inks) and Edgar Delgado (colors), along with variant covers by Nick Bradshaw, Benjamin Su, and Peach Momoko. Slott would ultimately write the title through issue #20 before departing Marvel for DC Comics in 2025.
