This October 1955 Atlas Comics anthology delivers all brand-new tales under the tagline "Stories to Hold You," and the cover — by Joe Maneely and Carl Burgos — sets a perfectly uneasy tone. A tense man in an orange sweater sits gripping a rifle in what appears to be a lived-in room, while a looming, ominous shadow stretches across the wall behind him, suggesting an unseen threat closing in. The cover teaser asks it plainly: "Who, or what, was 'The Frightened Man' afraid of?" — a question that makes it awfully hard to put this one back on the rack.
