This May 1997 issue of Image's long-running hellspawn saga packs a striking ensemble onto its cover — Spawn himself dominates the composition, his dark armor and sweeping red cape framing a chaotic collision of figures that includes a snarling werewolf-like creature, a monstrous fanged beast, a determined woman, and an armored figure brandishing a massive futuristic rifle. The cover art by penciler Greg Capullo and inker Todd McFarlane crackles with kinetic energy, each character jostling for space in a way that makes "Sanctuary" feel anything but safe. With the full creative team of McFarlane, Capullo, and colorists Brian Haberlin and Dan Kemp on board, this is mid-run Spawn firing on all cylinders.
