The sinister clown Violator takes center stage on this April 1997 cover, suspended by heavy chains against a grimy brick wall while clutching a battered sack — with the mocking graffiti "Spawn Was Here" scrawled in dripping green beside him. It's a wonderfully unsettling image, rendered with sharp detail by penciler Greg Capullo and inked by Todd McFarlane and Chance Wolf. Inside, "Dwarfed" promises more of the dark, visceral storytelling that made Spawn one of Image Comics' signature series.
