Spawn #226
This January 2013 issue of Spawn features a striking parody cover by Todd McFarlane, riffing on a certain Marvel mutant's most recognizable pose — a grey-skinned, fanged figure with spiked armor thrusts three gleaming, serrated claws directly toward the viewer, jaw wide open in a ferocious snarl. The bold yellow "Incredulous Spawn" logo ties the whole gag together with a knowing wink, and McFarlane's linework (inked by McFarlane himself, with colors by FCO Plascencia) gives the image a visceral, up-close energy that jumps right off the page. It's a playful, confident flex from one of comics' most distinctive voices, landing the humor without sacrificing an ounce of raw intensity.
