“The Terror of Tempus!”
About this Issue

Space Ghost Vol. 2 #9 marks a pivotal character-spotlight chapter within Dynamite's acclaimed revival of the Hanna-Barbera property, shifting the narrative lens decisively away from the title hero and onto Blip — the team's long-underutilized simian companion — as the sole active protagonist for an entire issue. By placing Blip at the center of a high-stakes psychic rescue and having him wield the Creature King's telepathic helmet, writer David Pepose formally elevates the character from comic-relief sidekick to fully realized hero within this continuity. The issue also demonstrates the creative elasticity of Pepose and Jonathan Lau's run, transitioning the series from the hard-science-fiction action of earlier arcs into psychological, dreamscape-driven storytelling without losing tonal coherence. As the first chapter following the emotionally devastating 'Legacy of Destruction' two-parter, it also functions as a bridge that deepens the found-family dynamics that define this interpretation of the Guardians of the Spaceways.

In "The Terror of Tempus!", Space Ghost and his allies face their most dangerous threat yet as the Time-Master Tempus, aided by the enigmatic Sorceress, hunts down every version of Space Ghost across the multiverse—draining their power with chilling precision. With the Ghost-team now his final target, the race against time grows desperate. Written by David Pepose and illustrated by Jonathan Lau, with colors by Andrew Dalhouse and letters by Taylor Esposito, this high-stakes adventure features a cover by Francesco Mattina.

History

Dynamite Entertainment launched Space Ghost Vol. 2 in August 2025 as a deliberate reset — a fresh jumping-on point following the twelve-issue first volume (May 2024–April 2025) and an intervening Annual — announced by Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci specifically to broaden the book's readership. The complete creative team from Volume 1 carried over intact: writer David Pepose, artist and inker Jonathan Lau, colorist Andrew Dalhouse, and letterer Taylor Esposito, all operating under a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, holders of the Hanna-Barbera catalog. The series also spawned a companion podcast, 'Ghost Stories with David Pepose,' documenting the making of the comic throughout its run.
