The series launched in May 2024 under a licensing arrangement between Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, with writer David Pepose and artist Jonathan Lau building the book from a negotiated twelve-issue run plus an annual. Pepose has described approaching each villain introduction as an opportunity to create an 'anti-Space Ghost,' and issue #6's Moltar — redesigned with an origin rooted in personal catastrophe and colored by Andrew Dalhouse's scorched oranges and molten reds — is the fullest expression of that philosophy in the series' first arc. A variant cover for the issue (Cover N) reproduces an Alex Toth model sheet for Moltar from the original cartoon, directly connecting the new comic to the character's 1966 animated roots.
