The series was announced in October 2023 as part of Dynamite Entertainment's expanded licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, which simultaneously brought multiple Hanna-Barbera properties — including ThunderCats, Jonny Quest, and Blue Falcon — into Dynamite's publishing line. Issue #4 was written by David Pepose, drawn by Jonathan Lau, colored by Andrew Dalhouse, and lettered by Taylor Esposito, the same core team that launched the series with issue #1 in May 2024. Pepose drew consciously on Zorak's most menacing animated origins while folding in an Easter-egg reference to the character's self-proclaimed title 'Lone Locust of the Apocalypse,' a phrase originating in Space Ghost Coast to Coast, to reward long-time fans while completely recontextualizing its meaning. The series was supported by a companion podcast, Ghost Stories with David Pepose, documenting the book's production.
