In "Incident en Argos !", Conan and his companions arrive in Messantia, where tensions flare with the city's arrogant royal guards. After a violent ambush and a desperate flight, Conan seeks refuge with the seer Momratha, who reveals unsettling visions of his fate—while Yusuf and Tara flee after a killing, and Conan is captured, refusing to betray them. With the city’s corrupt justice system crumbling around him, Conan escapes on horseback, leaving his allies behind.

In "La Reine de la Côte Noire," Conan narrowly escapes justice in Messantia by fleeing aboard a ship bound for the south. Off the coast of Kush, the vessel is seized by the fearsome pirate queen Bêlit and her black corsairs, who offer Conan a brutal test of survival: defeat the warrior Odongo in combat or die. Victorious, Conan earns Bêlit’s respect—and her favor—quickly rising to become her second-in-command and lover.

In "Les frères du sang," Conan washes ashore in a foreign land after a shipwreck, drawn into a deadly struggle between two brothers and their sister over the preserved corpse of their father. The story unfolds in a land where ancient rites and blood feuds shape the fate of kings, and Conan finds himself caught in a conflict older than the sands themselves.
