"Combat Ace" follows Captain Ace Carter, a soldier of fortune who receives orders recalling him to active duty as a Marine captain while in New York, forcing him to abandon a treasure-hunting expedition to the lost city of the Incas. In a separate naval adventure, English forces capture a Spanish galleon laden with gold, and amid the chaos of battle at sea, a confrontation ensues between rival captains fighting over the treasure, with themes of betrayal and bloodlust dominating the violent encounter.
Colonel Strickland, the toughest and most unforgiving battalion commander in Korea, discovers his own son Danny among the fresh troops—a medic who volunteered for the service despite his pacifist beliefs, earning his father's scorn for what the Colonel sees as cowardice. When Strickland orders Charlie Company, Danny's unit, on a dangerous reconnaissance patrol into the heart of enemy defenses, the real test of his son's courage begins in the brutal no-man's-land between the lines. As the patrol walks into a devastating trap, Danny must choose between his convictions and the suffering of his wounded comrades.
