About this Collection

This second volume of Roger Langridge's whimsical all-ages series continues the adventures of the Red King's young children, Wilberforce and Scarlett, as they journey across a fantastical land with the eccentric duo of the Walrus and the Carpenter. Collecting issues #5-8 of the 2012 Boom! Studios series, 'Ships and Sealing Wax' adapts more characters and nonsense from Lewis Carroll's poems and stories into a comedic, swashbuckling narrative.

In "Diary," the crew of the Bellman's ship finds themselves stranded on a strange island, barely escaping a flock of ravenous birds—only to be rescued by their unlikely saviors. With the mysterious map to Snark Island finally revealing its secrets after being soaked, the search takes a thrilling turn as the Bellman shares a long-lost message from Scarlett and Rusty's father. Written and illustrated by Roger Langridge, with colors by Lisa Moore and lettering by Langridge himself, this issue brings the surreal adventure to life, all capped by a cover by Langridge that captures the story’s whimsical dread.

Walrus and his friends drift to an island where they're nearly eaten by carnivorous birds, but the Bellman and his crew return and rescue them, welcoming them back aboard the ship. Bellman reveals he found a message in a bottle left by Scarlett and Rusty's father. Better still, they've discovered the map to Snark Island isn't blank as they supposed - by wetting it, they can finally locate the island.
