Smax #4
Issue four of this five-part America's Best Comics miniseries brings "The Charge of a Champion!" to the fore, with a cover by Zander Cannon that's equal parts whimsical and genuinely thrilling. A halo-crowned hero on a white horse levels a lance at a golden, ram-horned beast in the foreground, while a delightfully absurd panel of tiny scorecards — 8.5, 9.0, 8.0 — floats on the sideline, as if even the fantasy realm needs judges for its jousting. Alan Moore and Zander Cannon's fairy-tale spin-off from Top 10 continues to blend superhero sensibility with storybook charm in a way that feels completely its own.
