“Midnight vs. Bullets Balow”

In "Midnight vs. Bullets Balow," the Marksman faces off against the deadly Nazi villain Cross Bow, a foe who's already claimed lives from Povalski's resistance. Though struck by a bolt meant to end him, the Marksman survives thanks to a hidden cork protector beneath his costume—only to be bested in a brutal hand-to-hand clash. Written and illustrated by Fred Guardineer, with a striking cover by Reed Crandall, this 1943 issue delivers a tense, action-packed showdown from the golden age of comics.

The Marksman meets his match with his Nazi arch-foe, Cross Bow, who had killed several members of Povalski's resistence, and even took a bolt to the stomach from his enemy's weapon. However, he was saved by a protector made of cork that he wore under his costume, and the fight came down to fisticuffs, which the Baron won.
