In "The Empire of Captain Blue," a young boy named the Ray and two men find themselves stranded on a Pacific island after their plane is shot down by "asiatics." There, they encounter Captain Blue, a ruthless pirate with ambitions to conquer Hawaii and then rule the world as the Americans and the "mongols" tear each other apart. Trapped in a circle of light, the Ray must rely on his wits and courage to outmaneuver his captor.
In "Gabby, the Talking Monkey," Midnight intervenes during a purse snatching, only to uncover a shocking secret when the victim, scientist Alice, reveals she can communicate with animals. After Alice is murdered and her research destroyed, Midnight takes custody of her only surviving witness—Gabby, the talking monkey—determined to see justice done.

When a brave young woman offers them shelter and reveals that the true Prince of Kabat languishes in a island prison, Carter and Bruce must race against time to mount a daring rescue before Chung's executioners strike.
