“War in the Far East!”

In "War in the Far East!", a 1939 installment of Smash Comics #2, inventor Hazzard faces off with Commissioner Hunt over the fate of a rogue robot, only to be interrupted by a breaking news alert about a kidnapping. With the robot’s flying capabilities newly activated, Hazzard seizes the moment to demonstrate its potential by intercepting the kidnapper’s plane—proving its worth in a crisis, and quietly winning favor with the skeptical official. Written, drawn, and inked by George Brenner, this early superhero tale blends wartime tension with the promise of mechanical innovation.

While Hazzard wastes no time in adding a flying device to the robot, Commissioner Hunt is very displeased that this robot was on the loose after ordering it destroyed. Hunt is in the process of ordering Hazzard to turn the robot over to him when a news flash concerning a kidnapping interrupts the demand. Hazzard sees a chance to prove Bozo's worth, and uses the robot to capture the kidnapper's plane, thus proving the value of the robot in crime fighting, especially since Hunt liked the idea that he could use Hazzard's services at no expense to taxpayers.
