“Stars and Tykes”

Part of DC's 2000 "Sins of Youth" crossover event, this one-shot takes a delightfully unexpected turn suggested right on the cover: a crowd of chibi-fied, child-sized heroes — including what appear to be Starwoman, a tiny Green Lantern, and a whole cluster of de-aged JSA members — tumbling together in colorful chaos, weapons and all. Mike Wieringo's pencils and Terry Austin's inks give the ensemble an energetic, almost playful quality that perfectly suits the "junior society" premise. With Geoff Johns scripting and the story cheekily titled "Stars and Tykes," this issue looks like a genuinely fun ride through one of DC's more imaginative crossover concepts.
