Dynamite Entertainment announced the SilverHawks series at New York Comic Con in October 2024, roughly one year after its ThunderCats launch, as the next title in a growing line of licensed Rankin/Bass properties developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Writer Ed Brisson — who had already written ThunderCats: Apex for Dynamite — was a self-described advocate for the series from the moment ThunderCats launched, lobbying editor Nate Cosby for the project; artist George Kambadais, fresh from Dynamite's acclaimed Gargoyles revival, joined as interior artist. The series launched in January 2025 and issue #3, originally solicited for April 23, 2025, was delayed to May 7, 2025 — a shift attributed in part to ongoing distribution volatility following Diamond Comic Distributors' Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
