In "Siege Prologue," Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel launch a high-stakes clash that reshapes the Marvel Universe, as Volstagg’s quest for adventure is weaponized by Loki and Norman Osborn. When a devastating attack on Soldier Field in Chicago kills thousands, Ares is manipulated into leading a massive force of Avengers and Initiative heroes in a brutal assault on Asgard—now hovering over Broxton, Oklahoma. Thor steps in to defend his home, only to be overwhelmed, and Captain America, recently returned from the dead, witnesses the fall of his friend on live television. The cover by Olivier Coipel and Mark Morales captures the chaos of a world on the brink.

As Volstagg roams the Earth looking for adventures, Loki and Norman Osborn set him up by forcing him to battle the U-Foes in a public place. Soldier Field in Chicago is blown up during a football game and thousands are killed. Norman fools Ares by telling him that Loki is responsible, and Ares agrees to lead an army of Avengers and Initiative heroes in an invasion of Asgard (which is currently hovering over Broxton, Oklahoma). Thor intervenes and is badly beaten. Captain America, recently returned from the dead, watches his friend fall on live television.
