Created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru, the stories follow Doc Magnus and his six metallic creations—Gold, Iron, Lead, Tin, Mercury, and Platinum—as they battle threats like the gas-based Chemo and the villainous Mr. 104, blending Silver Age sci-fi with quirky character dynamics. The Showcase Presents format offers a budget-friendly way to experience these foundational tales in their original, uncolored form.
In "The Flaming Doom!", the Metal Men face a monstrous, eye-beam-wielding manta-like creature that threatens to destroy their mission. With Mercury soaring on a rocket disc, Platinum weaving a web, and Lead adding weight, the team fights desperately to bring it down—each member pushing beyond their limits in a final, desperate assault.
In "The Playground of Terror!", the Metal Men host a children's show, but Tina stays behind when a blind boy named Timmy refuses to join in. His mother’s hope for a cure through future science sparks a moment of connection, leading Tina to impulsively promise Doc might help. When Timmy takes a ride on a launch-ready rocket, cosmic turbulence sends them hurtling into space—landing on a desolate planet where an abandoned amusement park hides sinister, robot-powered attractions that once turned on their creators.
In "The Robot Juggernaut!", the Metal Men and Billy flee the planet of the Playground of Terror only to crash-land on a new world where towering Robot Juggernauts hunt them for scrap. With their survival on the line, the team must find a way to outwit their mechanical pursuers before they’re melted down—while a mysterious comet shower lights their path home, restoring Billy’s sight along the way.
In "Revolt of the Gas Gang!", the Metal Men find themselves fused together during a clash with the Robot Juggernauts, their metallic forms now dangerously entangled. Struggling to separate in the smelter, impurities twist their personalities, turning them unpredictable and volatile. With their usual cohesion lost, Doc must summon the Gas Gang to contain the chaos and restore the team to their true selves—before their altered states spiral beyond control.
