As the bumbling team struggles through class, their mishaps grow increasingly absurd, from being turned to stone to getting doused and iced. Just as hope flickers with the arrival of a fan club, the real threat emerges: the Fraternity of Atavistic No-Goodnicks, ready to turn the school into a wrecking ball. Written by E. Nelson Bridwell and illustrated by Mike Sekowsky with inks by Mike Esposito, the cover by Sekowsky and Esposito captures the absurd energy of the tale.
In the absurd halls of Dean Egghead's Academy for Super-Heroes, the staff has quit and even the likes of the JLA and Metal Men won’t take the job—so the dean is forced to hire the Inferior Five as teachers. Between bumbling lessons and constant mishaps, the team barely keeps their heads (and limbs) intact. When a fan club’s visit is announced, hope flickers—until the real guests arrive, and it’s not the fans they expected.
In a delightfully absurd twist, Dr. Dinosaur—armed with a second brain in his tail—plots to take down the Egg's Men and, for good measure, the I5 as well. Meanwhile, the I5’s field trip goes hilariously off-script, their attempts to demonstrate powers resulting in chaotic, unintended destruction. Just as they return to school, they’re suddenly ambushed by the FAN, who barks, “Attack, Nogoodniks!”
In a delightfully absurd 1966 satire, Awkwardman stumbles into a pool and unexpectedly meets Angel Fish, sparking a romance that’s as awkward as it is outlandish. When the villainous Dr. Dinosaur wreaks havoc, the I5 — a group of earnest but inept would-be heroes — call in their parents, the retired Freedom Brigade, to save the day. As the FAN is rounded up and the future of superhero training hangs in the balance, Awkwardman can’t help but dream of his mermaid muse, while the heroes-in-the-making grumble that the picnic is over.
