“Doctor No”

"Doctor No" delivers a taut, early Bond adventure in Showcase #43 (1963), adapting Ian Fleming’s iconic tale with a crisp, cinematic flair. Written by Alfred Sundel and Ian Fleming, and illustrated with bold precision by Norman Nodel, the story follows James Bond as he tracks mysterious interference in rocket launches to a remote island, facing danger at every turn. The cover by Bob Brown captures the thriller’s ominous tone, making this a standout entry in DC’s early superhero anthology series.

In Jamaica, John Strangways is grabbed by three "blind" beggars. He was checking on "massive interference" with Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Bond goes to Jamaica and zeroes in on Crab Key. He survives fistfights, a tarantula in his bed, gunshots, and being run off the road. Finally, with the help of Honey Ryder and Quarrel, a fisherman, he reaches the island. A "dragon" tank captures them. Doctor No plans to scotch the next missile launch. Bond breaks out of his cell and stops No's radioactive strike as the doctor is electrocuted.
