There's real tension crackling across this March 1972 cover, where Howling Commandos scramble through a burst of explosions — one soldier crying out "We're sittin' ducks!" while a determined, mustachioed Dum Dum Dugan plants his feet and bellows "We stand and fight!" The cover art by Gil Kane and John Severin captures the squad caught in a desperate firefight, bodies lurching amid yellow blasts with weapons drawn and nerves fraying.
