"The Old Tobacco Box" follows young Peter Hunt, who seeks advice from an old sea captain about running away to join a seafaring life; the captain, recognizing Peter's wanderlust, provides him with a tobacco box and encourages him to pursue adventure at sea. Another story features Cindy, a shrewd operator involved in various schemes, who encounters complications when her plans go awry and she must contend with pursuing adversaries and narrow escapes, ultimately finding herself in perilous situations involving ships and water-based action.
The Ol' Skipper, a grizzled man with a past tied to the sea, finds himself facing eviction from his beachside shack by the new landowner, Joe Leeds. When Joe learns the Skipper once risked his life to save his old landlord’s son in a violent storm, he reconsiders his stance — not just out of guilt, but something deeper, something the sea has long kept hidden.
