Sense & Sensibility #1
Sense & Sensibility #1 (2010, Marvel) brings Jane Austen’s timeless tale to life with a fresh, visually rich adaptation by writer Nancy Butler and artist Sonny Liew, whose expressive artwork and thoughtful inking bring the emotional nuances of the Dashwood family’s upheaval to vivid life. Cover by Sonny Liew captures the quiet tension of a household in transition, as the death of Henry Dashwood leaves his widow and daughters at the mercy of his son John and his calculating wife Fanny, forcing them to leave their ancestral home of Norwood Park for a more modest life.

When Henry Dashwood dies, his estate of Norwood Park falls into the control of his eldest son John, or, perhaps more correctly, of John's wife Fanny, which leaves his widow and three younger daughters at Fanny's mercy. Attempts to maintain a feeling of friendliness prove fruitless, particularly when Fanny's brother Edward takes an interest in Elinor, the eldest Dashwood daughter, and the sisters and their mother are compelled to move to a much smaller house owned by a relative of their mother's.
