“The Ghost That Trembled!”

In "The Ghost That Trembled!", Doctor Decker’s crash-landing in Africa sets off a chain of strange events when he befriends a small monkey named Konga and encounters towering native tribesmen whose size comes from a mysterious plant serum. Back in England, Decker’s experiments with the serum lead to unexpected results as Konga grows rapidly—first into a gorilla, then into a colossal creature that terrorizes London. Written by Joe Gill and illustrated with striking precision by Steve Ditko, this 1981 tale blends jungle mystery with science fiction, all rendered in dramatic style. The cover by Kurt Schaffenberger captures the story’s eerie, otherworldly tone.

After his plane crashes in Africa, Doctor Decker is befriended by a small monkey named Konga as well as natives that stand nearly 12 feet tall. Decker discovers that the natives drink a serum concocted from seeds of a giant plant which is what causes their immense growth. Bringing Konga and some plant seeds back to England with him, Decker creates the serum and injects Konga with it. Konga grows into a gorilla and eventually into a giant that rampages through London before being destroyed by the military.
