Secret Origins #3

In Secret Origins #3 (1986), young Billy Batson discovers a hidden cavern beneath a Fawcett City subway and encounters the ancient wizard Shazam, who bestows upon him the power to become Captain Marvel with a single word. The story follows Billy’s first steps as a superhero when he must stop the villainous Dr. Sivana from sabotaging the U.S. radio system. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Jerry Bingham, with inks by Steve Mitchell, colors by Carl Gafford, and letters by David Cody Weiss, the cover by Bingham and Mitchell captures the moment of Billy’s transformation.
