“Smokin' Red Head”

In "Smokin' Red Head," the sixth chapter of Second Wave: War of the Worlds, Miles is haunted by a dream that blurs memory and fear—only to wake into a reality where the alien threat has shifted in terrifying ways. With the help of Jane, James, and the mysterious force that fell with them, they barely escape the Sheriff’s final attack, only to realize the truth: the scrubber that landed is a key to a new Martian resurgence. Written by Michael Alan Nelson and lettered by Ed Dukeshire, this tense, survival-driven issue finds the group stranded and isolated, facing an unknown enemy with no clear path forward—cover by Sunder Raj.

Miles has a dream that he is with Gina but Duke comes and makes him leave. He wakes up to find that whatever landed has separated them long enough for Duke to release him and James from the handcuffs. The Sheriff wakes up and tries to kill them again, but Jane kills the Sheriff. Miles then figures out that what fell on them is a scrubber, which clears out the bacteria that killed the Martians originally, allowing the new Martians to come after them. They all barely manage to get away. They are left knowing that they are all alone and it will be up to them to figure out how to survive.
