In the isolated mountain village of Kolosk, fear grips the townspeople as night falls and ancient superstitions take hold. A young barmaid hurries home from the tavern, unaware that a vampire—Count Wilhem Volusk—has been preying on the villagers, until the townsfolk, armed and united, storm his castle to hunt him down. As the mob corners the count, a new threat emerges from the shadows, leaving the true nature of the danger in question.

In the spring of 1868, a young man of extraordinary intellect named Auguste Dupin and his companion investigate the bizarre murders in the Rue Morgue, where two women were found brutally killed in a locked apartment with no clear way in or out. As the police struggle to make sense of conflicting witness accounts and impossible details—such as a voice speaking multiple languages and a body stuffed up a chimney—Dupin begins to piece together the truth through meticulous observation and logic.
