Scooby-Doo #42

Scooby and Shaggy look genuinely rattled on the cover of this January 2001 DC/Cartoon Network issue, surrounded by dancing skeletons, colorful skull masks, and elaborately costumed figures in what feels very much like a Day of the Dead celebration gone delightfully haywire. Velma holds up a decorative skull mask with curiosity while the speech bubbles — "Wow, these spooky masks are a big hit with everyone here!" and Shaggy's trembling "L-l-like, and this one's just BIG!" — set the comedic tone perfectly. Cover pencils by Joe Staton and inks by Dave Hunt give the whole scene a lively, energetic feel that pairs nicely with the interior story "Dig Them Bones.
