Scooby Apocalypse #9

This March 2017 issue drops the whole gang into a genuinely harrowing standoff: Velma stands her ground mid-corridor, laptop open, as a mass of grotesque monsters looms behind her, while Fred (splattered with green slime), Shaggy wielding a massive axe, Daphne with a firearm, and a tech-collared Scooby-Doo look on from the foreground. Howard Porter's cover composition uses a sharp corridor perspective to brilliant effect, making the monster horde feel overwhelming yet strangely tense as the gang braces for whatever comes next. With Giffen and DeMatteis at the writing helm and Ron Wagner on interior art, Scooby Apocalypse continues to earn its reputation as a surprisingly gripping reinvention of these familiar faces.
